Introduction
Astrologers had predicted 1666 to be a year of catastrophe. The Great Fire of London was both catastrophic and a major turning point in history. For years, there had been warnings of London's total destruction by fire. Fires in London were common. They'd had several between the years 1077 and 1633 all leading up to the great fire of 1666. People worried about the wooden houses and narrow streets since it would be easy for the fire to spread through all of London. However, in 1665, people weren't worried about a fire. The Black Plague had killed over 68,000 people in the previous two years. The strong east wind worried many people since when combined with dry, dusty air; it was known to be very effective in carrying plague. What the people didn't realize was that it would prove equally destructive in helping the fire destroy their home.
